V = 8

The letter V is assigned the number 8, which is sacred to Egyptian Thoth, God of Magick, of language, and of "spells", and corresponding to the eighth Sephira of the Tree of Life, Hod, the sphere of the planet Mercury, Messenger of the Gods. As Robert Graves notes, cranes, which are Thoth's totem birds, fly in V-formation, seeming to make letters as they fly.
